What the checks mean

Everything on What Investors Ask comes from each company's own published documents: annual reports, results and presentations. Here is exactly what we check, what that tells you, and what it does not.

What we checkHowWhat it tells youWhat it does not tell you
Every figureThe number is found on the page it cites, in the words quoted beside it.The figure is the company's own, exactly as that page gives it.That the company's figure is right. A later report may restate it: when one does, we show the later figure and mark the year.
Every sentence of a written answerThe answer is written by AI from passages of the documents. Every number and year in a sentence is checked against the passages that sentence cites. The numbers and years come from the cited pages, and you can open each page to read the passage. That the wording or reading of the passage is right in every respect, or that nothing relevant was missed elsewhere. Reviewed answers have also been read by a person.
Every comparison and calculationWorked out by code from checked figures, the same way for every company. The formula and the figures used are shown. The arithmetic is exact and repeatable, never estimated by the AI.That it matches the company's own measure of the same name: companies define measures differently, and the answer says so.
Instant answersCalculated by code straight from the checked figures. No AI is involved. Each figure and its page, and the changes between years worked out exactly. Why the figures moved: for that, ask a question, and the answer will say what the documents explain.
Reviewed answersA person read the answer against its pages before it was shown here. A reviewed answer is withdrawn when the documents change.A second, human check of the wording and the figures.Advice of any kind. This is information from documents, not investment advice.
"Not disclosed" or "not fully covered"The documents searched do not establish it. The answer says which part is missing.Which question the documents leave open. That the company has never said it (it may be in a call or a news release we do not hold), or that the company has done anything wrong.
